"Celebrate the stunning interiors and glorious gardens of the Seguine House, New York’s undiscovered architectural gem and only once-working plantation. This gorgeous full-color photographic volume introduces the historic 1838 Greek Revival Joseph H. Seguine House and stables in Prince’s Bay,Staten Island, New York.
Seguine made a fortune in oystering, candles, and produce, and as a founder of the Staten Island Railroad he also worked with Cornelius Vanderbilt. In creating this 100-acre working farm, stables, and estate grounds, Seguine was advised on the landscape design by Frederick Law Olmsted, famed for his design work on New York’s Central Park. This estate, an embodiment of the nineteenth century, is on theNational Register of Historic Places and is a member of the Historic House Trust.

"Past the sprawl of traffic and tightly spaced suburban homes in Prince’s Bay in Staten Island, the forgotten grandeur
of another way of life can be glimpsed. To raise money to support the house in the future, Ms. Mantz put together a 124-page coffee-table book tracing the mansion’s history and Mr. Burke’s restoration. The Seguine House: A Nineteenth-Century Working Estate in Twenty-First Century New York City."
